Abstract

The study examined the relationship between military spending and economic growth in Mauritania for the period 1990-2018 using VAR models and causality tests. The most important of the independent variables selected are the increase in government spending on the military as a proportion of GDP and labor force growth, as well as significant changes in capital protection. The most striking finding is that military spending has long-term effects. Total capital formation has also changed positively. The most important recommendation is that supporting security and stability can improve the prospects for economic growth in the country.
