Abstract

This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of an educational program based on the theory of the five minds in the achievement of fifth-grade science students in biology and the development of their metacognitive thinking. The researcher followed the procedures of the descriptive and experimental approaches as the researcher prepared an educational program that included educational objectives, topics from the biology book for fifth-grade science, teaching methods, appropriate strategies, activities, educational means, and evaluation methods. It consists of the teacher’s guide and the student’s book. The researcher intentionally chose secondary and preparatory schools in Dhi Qar Governorate / Al-Gharraf District to represent the research community. Then he chose Al-Gharraf Martyrs Preparatory School and randomly chose the fifth scientific section (A) to represent the experimental group that studies biology according to the educational program with (41) students and the fifth scientific section (B) to represent the control group that studies the same subject according to the usual method. With (41) students, the research sample reached (82) students. The researcher prepared two tools to measure the research variables: The first was an achievement test consisting in its final form of (60) test paragraphs, and the researcher verified its validity, distinction, and reliability. The second tool was a metacognitive thinking test, in its final form of (30) test paragraphs, and the researcher verified its validity and reliability. The researcher used the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version (27) to extract the results. After analyzing the results statistically, the researcher reached the following conclusions: The experimental group outperformed the control group in the achievement and metacognitive thinking tests.
