Abstract

This paper explores the integration of Indian Classical Music (ICM) into 21st-century education, inspired by the multidisciplinary approach of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. ICM, with its rich cultural heritage and philosophical underpinnings, offers a unique opportunity to foster holistic learning, cognitive development, and emotional intelligence in students. By incorporating ICM into the curriculum, educators can create a more inclusive, creative, and culturally relevant learning environment that caters to diverse learning styles and promotes academic excellence. This study examines the potential benefits of integrating ICM into modern education, including enhanced cognitive skills, improved emotional intelligence, and increased cultural awareness. It also discusses the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing ICM in educational settings, such as curriculum design, teacher training, and resource allocation. Through a multidisciplinary approach, this research highlights the significance of ICM in promoting holistic education, as envisioned by NEP 2020. The findings suggest that ICM can be effectively integrated into various subjects, such as music, dance, drama, and even science and mathematics, to enhance student engagement, creativity, and academic performance. This study provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers seeking to innovate and enrich educational practices in India and beyond.
