One of the key tasks of teaching a foreign language in a non-linguistic university is mastering the skills of understanding a foreign language text. Moreover, reading specialized texts is becoming particularly relevant due to the increasing role of foreign language communication in the professional activities of modern specialists. The article considers the teaching of professionally oriented reading as a key aspect in the formation of foreign language communicative competence among students of non-linguistic specialties. The emphasis is placed on the fact that it is the authentic text of a professional orientation that is the basis for the successful mastery of a foreign language professional discourse by a future specialist with a professionally oriented approach in teaching foreign languages in non-core universities.
